JOHOR (SOROT1.ID) — The international amateur golf stage has once again marked a monumental new chapter. The prestigious World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) 2026, held at the Desaru Coast integrated coastal resort area and various regions in Johor, Malaysia, has officially set a new record in its history.
This year’s event successfully broke participation records by bringing together 620 participants from 48 countries. The participants were no ordinary golfers, but rather business professionals, executives, and figures across various industries who competed with great sportsmanship across strict handicap categories, ranging from 0–5 up to 21–25.
”WAGC was founded to provide a world-class tournament experience for amateur golfers, just like professional athletes. This year, we brought together 48 countries with 620 participants, and the extraordinary support from the Malaysian Government, Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Johor, and Desaru Coast has made this edition truly special,” stated WAGC President Isac Saminathan on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
To accommodate the massive surge in participation, he added, the organizing committee expanded the scale of the tournament like never before.
”If in previous years the competition was concentrated on just four arenas, WAGC 2026 expanded its scope to five international-standard golf courses in Johor,” he revealed.
The golfers tested their strategic precision on iconic courses such as The Els Club (Ocean & Valley Courses), Forest City Golf Resort (Classic Course), and Tanjung Puteri Golf Resort, all of which offered world-class technical challenges amidst Johor’s stunning natural landscapes.
